This week I posed my "If I Dropped By..." question to Tarra Thiessen of the Brooklyn based band Sharkmuffin. The band recently released the second single, "Mermaid Sex Slave", from their debut EP She-Gods of Champagne Valley. If you haven't had a chance to check out Sharkmuffin, they're a raw pleasure filled treat; see for yourself at the bottom of the post.
Quirky NY Chick (QNYC): ... and brought a friend who didn't know your music, what song of yours would you play for them and why?
Tarra Thiessen (TT): "Mermaid Sex Slave", because it's my grandma's favorite Sharkmuffin song (seriously!). (Editor’s note: Grandma is obviously a very cool and awesome lady!)
(QNYC): ... what song or album would you feel I needed to hear before I left?
(TT): I'd probably make some coffee and keep you there for awhile....
- The Ventures in Space
- Odetta & the Blues
- Steve Vibes - Highland Park
- Judy Nylon's cover of Jail House Rock
(QNYC): ... would you proudly display the cheesy music in your collection or pretend someone left it by mistake?
(TT): Proudly display it. I probably wouldn't even be in a band if it wasn't for Good Charlotte, early 2000s screamo and Katy Perry.
(QNYC): … Kung Fu Fighting, Disco Duck or Macho Man
(TT): Macho Man
(QNYC): … sushi or Mexican?
(TT): sushi
(QNYC): ... what's one thing you must have in your refrigerator at all times?
(TT): Sriracha
If you're in the New York area, you can catch Sharkmuffin live!
