Quirky NY Chick (QNYC): ... and brought a friend who didn't know your music, what song of yours would you play for them and why?
Rachel Griffin (RG): I'd play the title track of the EP "Over The Moon for You." I really like playing the piano part (it's super fun and happy) and its also just an excited, joyful tune in general, about finding an incredible love that at one time I really didn't think existed. It's also about how everyone deserves that kind of love and care and that you don't need to fear it. So I'd want to leave the friend with that feeling rather then depressing them with a song and being like, "Looooove suuuccckkkssss .. You'll always be alllooooneeeee" (which I am also very good at doing.. lol extremes... I'm a true artist!) Also, I'm super excited about, "Over The Moon For You" right now because the music video is coming out and it's my first music video ever and I'm been wanting to make music videos forEVER! Since I was a kid I've pretended to be in a music video in my mirror and lip sank. Thank God no one has videos of that. ;)
(QNYC): ... what song or album would you feel I needed to hear before I left?
(RG): I'd make you tea or coffee (I make the best cup of tea ever... I have a secret ingredient... Extra love!:) Ok it's not a secret .. But it's an amazing cup of tea and I really pretend to sprinkle love in!) (Yes, I'm part Disney Princess.) and play you this album my sister recommended that I am really digging "San fermin." (self-titled) It's just really unique and awesome and I love the arrangements! If you were an alien who had never heard music ever I would play you Stevie Wonder to show you how amazing the music on our planet is... I’d love me some Stevie wonder with an alien.
(QNYC): ... would you proudly display the cheesy music in your collection or pretend someone left it by mistake?
(RG): Hahahaha I would totally proudly display. I think cheesy music is genius in its own cheesy genius way. In fact, I'd probably put on some loud cheesy music and ask you if you wanted to have a dance party. No shame, only dance parties.
(QNYC): … roller skates, bicycle or skateboard?
(RG): Roller skates. Easy. I had a photo shoot last summer in these amazing vintage roller skates I found on Craigslist. A few years ago some of my friends and I decided to start roller skating at a rink every week. We also would JUDGE the guys we were dating on whether or not they'd come roller skating with us. If they were too cool to roller-skate and look kind of ridiculous the they weren't awesome enough. We like people who want to be ridiculous with us.
(QNYC): … broccoli or cauliflower?
(RG): I don't even think I've ever tried cauliflower! Why would you choose that boring color if you could have GREEN! I'm so a broccoli girl! That sounds like a song for kids!
"You're like a little tree
that's so good for me!
Baby, you're leaFY
I'm a brocccccolliiiiiii girl"
I'm singing this right now. I make songs about everything. It can be both entertaining and annoying. ;)
(QNYC): ... what's one thing you must have in your refrigerator at all times?
(RG): Whole milk. For my coffee which is my favorite thing ever. (I do have a song about coffee) best. flavor. ever. Also love it with English breakfast tea and I drink milk before bed sometimes like I’m 5 years old. Lol!
