This week, I posed my "If I Dropped By…" question to Pravada drummer Casey Tennis. With a couple of shows coming up at The Bowery Electric on May 6 and May 13 (see below for more details and how to win a pair of tickets to see them live) and a fondness for their music…check out their album Dirty Looks, my curious mind got the best of me. So, of course, I had to make one of my hypothetical visits.
Quirky NY Chick (QNYC): ... and brought a friend who didn't know your music, what song of yours would you play for them and why?
Casey Tennis (CT): The Pravada song I’d play you would depend on the moment -- we hop genres a lot. As a starter, perhaps ‘Touch Too Much.’ Its a new version of an old favorite.
(QNYC): ... what song or album would you feel I needed to hear before I left?
(CT): We have been listening to The Icks (Indianapolis) in our band vehicle. If we didn’t want to run out to the truck, you’d be stuck with Jesse’s new iTunes purchases of Phèdre, JD McPherson, or The Presets.
(QNYC): ... would you proudly display the cheesy music in your collection or pretend someone left it by mistake?
(CT): We have zero shame for the cheesy LPs in our collection: Death, Steely Dan, Gene Pitney, Sadé, Sir Lord Baltimore, Howard Jones, Janis Ian… uhm... we could go on & on. We wear it proudly.
(QNYC): … vinyl, 8-track or digital?
(CT): Vinyl, mostly. Digital is convenient and necessary, we use it a lot outside! Jesse has a couple 8-tracks but has to go to his uncle’s house to play them.
(QNYC): … city or country?
(CT): If you’re offering a vacation we’ll take Sicily or a Greek Isle. Stateside NYC, Denver, Seattle.
(QNYC): ... what's one thing you must have in your refrigerator at all times?
(CT): White wine and feta cheese.
My thanks to Casey for letting me "visit".
